KUET will remain closed till December 23
Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) has been closed for 10 days till December 23. Rabiul Islam Sohag, spokesman for Kuwait's public relations and information department, confirmed the decision at a syndicate meeting in KUET on Sunday night.
Earlier, due to the volatile situation, KUET was declared closed till December 13 at the syndicate meeting on December 3 and the students were instructed to leave the hall by 4 pm on that day.
Besides, a five-member inquiry committee was formed on that day. The committee was asked to submit an investigation report within 10 days. But the inquiry committee has not yet completed the investigation. The campus closure period has been extended in view of the recommendations of the inquiry committee.
Professor Dr. Md. Selim Hossain died on the afternoon of November 30. It was alleged that in the office room, under the leadership of Sadman Nahyan Sejan, general secretary of the KUET branch of Chhatra League, some ordinary students interrogated, insulted, blocked and mentally torturer Dr. Selim and eventually he died. The university administration formed two committees to investigate the incident.
The teachers' association boycotted the academic activities on December 2 at noon demanding five points including permanent expulsion from the university by identifying those involved in the death of Professor Selim. Teachers have demanded a ban on student politics in the KUET campus since the protests.
